The trek begins at Uttarey (1,965 metres) and ascend to Chewa Bhanjyang (4,170 metres) on the sikkim – Nepal border, where a police check post exists on the Sikkim side. From here on, the trek route keeps between the altitude of 3,000 metres to 4,000 metres with the highest point being Dafey Bhir pass located at an altitude of 4,400 metres. The terrain along the trek route is treeless, criss crossing, steep, rugged rocky hills with grassy meadows forming flat plain at places. Within the folds of these fragile rocky slopes one comes across several high altitude lake formations of turquoise green water considered prostine and sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists. Among these lakes, Ram and Laxuman, Lampokhari, Laxmi Pokhari and Zomlay Pokharies are some of the well known lakes, located along the main trekking route. At places the trail leads through the rich rhododendron forest of many hues and colours. The trek route after Gomangthang valley goes intermittently through forest of silver fir and rhododendron right upto the alpine plains of Dzongri. From Dzongri, we trek further to Samiti from where we will take the early morning excursion to Goechela for the breath taking view of Mt.Kanchendzonga (weather permitting). From here  the trail descends to Tsoka, passing through dense forests of Rhododendrons as well as silver fir trees stretching right down to Tsoka village (2,963 metres) and then to Yuksom, the first Capital of Sikkim.
